Choose the Right Anodizing Type for Your Part
The best anodizing process depends on corrosion resistance, wear requirements, appearance and dimensional tolerance. Our engineers review these factors before recommending a finish.

Thin coating with corrosion protection and limited dimensional change. Commonly considered for aerospace and precision applications.

Type II is suitable for decorative colors, corrosion resistance, and general industrial applications.

Thicker and harder coating for parts requiring improved wear resistance and durability. Critical dimensions may require compensation or masking.
Typical Applications of Anodized CNC Machining Parts
AerospaceLightweight aluminum alloy parts (such as 7075, 6061) can maintain high strength and excellent corrosion resistance in harsh environments after anodizing. They are used in aircraft internal brackets, instrument panel housings, sensor housings, drone structural parts, etc.
AutomotiveHard anodizing is usually used for specific CNC-machined parts that require high hardness and wear resistance. It can also resist corrosion caused by oil, moisture, salt, etc., in the automotive operating environment.
ElectronicsAnodized CNC-machined parts offer excellent wear resistance, a stylish and beautiful metal texture, a wide range of color options, and are not prone to fading. They are widely used in consumer electronics such as laptop cases, mobile phone holders, wearable device cases, and high-end stationery.
Medical DevicesBiocompatible aluminum alloy and titanium alloy CNC-machined parts have a highly inert surface after anodizing, making them easy to disinfect and sterilize. They are commonly used in surgical instruments, medical equipment components, etc.
Architectural and ConstructionDecoration companies or designers may choose anodized aluminum CNC parts to make some interior decorations, such as handrails, brackets, etc.
Color Consistency Starts Before Anodizing

For batch parts, we use the same alloy materials and temper conditions as much as possible to reduce appearance differences.

We provide CNC machining, blasting, polishing, and brushing. These processes will change the gloss and color visual effects after anodizing.

A physical standard sample provides more reliable reference standards.

Under unified lighting conditions, we will compare mass-produced anodized parts.
Why Choose DSR's Anodizing Process?
Successful anodizing starts before the part enters the anodizing line. We review material, machining allowances, critical dimensions and appearance requirements as one complete project.

We review coating buildup on bores, threads, mating faces and other critical features before machining. Masking and machining allowances are planned according to your drawing requirements.

Alloy composition, tempering conditions, and surface texture can all affect the final color of the part. We will control these variables to ensure that the part appearance meets your requirements.

From single prototype manufacturing to mass production, we provide full support for every manufacturing stage of your project.

Our team can provide you with machining and anodizing processing services. This can help you effectively reduce the handover and communication risks between suppliers.

The approved processing, surface treatment and inspection requirements have all been documented. This ensures that for subsequent orders, your parts can maintain consistency in quality and appearance.

Parts are checked for dimensions, surface condition and finish requirements before shipment. Additional inspection documentation can be provided based on your project.
Quality Control From Machining to Final Anodizing
After anodizing, precision machined parts rely on our strict quality control process to ensure excellent surface finish and specifications. Our quality inspectors check the specifications of parts both before and after oxidation to ensure their tolerance specifications meet customer requirements. They also use film thickness gauges to detect whether the oxide layer thickness of the parts meets standards.
For parts that require coloring, to ensure these parts achieve uniform and consistent color surface effects, quality inspectors also use color cards for comparison to avoid color difference issues in parts.
Meanwhile, we also have a comprehensive quality control system, including incoming material inspection, in-process machining checks, pre-anodizing preparation, and post-anodizing inspection. We are committed to providing our customers with high-quality anodized parts.

A Wide Range of Color Options
The color of anodized CNC machining parts is determined by many factors, including the type of anodizing, the material, and the dyeing methods. Below are the common options for surface colors:
Clear Anodizing: It retains the metallic sheen of the CNC-machined parts,
Dark Anodizing: Hardcoat anodized finish creates a darker, matte finish
Custom Colors: Black, gold, red, blue, green, and various other colors available in DSR.
Brushed Finish: It brings a brushed texture to the surface of your CNC-machined parts and is done before the anodizing.
Choose the Right Aluminum Alloy for Machining and Anodizing

Different aluminum alloys exhibit varying colors, luster, and surface uniformity after anodization. When selecting materials, you should consider both mechanical properties and the final surface appearance of the parts.
DSR can manufacture aluminum alloy parts of different grades for you. We can formulate the most suitable surface treatment solutions according to your requirements. Below are several commonly used aluminum alloy grades. This table helps you quickly make appropriate selections based on part applications.
| Material | Suggestion |
| 6061 | A common choice for machined parts requiring a good balance of strength, machinability and anodizing response. |
| 6063 | This grade of aluminum alloy is commonly used for decorative parts with high requirements for surface appearance and color. |
| 7075 | This grade of aluminum alloy is suitable for high-strength parts, but the alloy composition may affect the consistency of color and surface finish. |
| 5052 | This material has good corrosion resistance and formability. If you have strict requirements for appearance consistency, I suggest you confirm the final appearance effect of the parts through samples. |
| 2024 | This material has high strength, but its copper content may affect the appearance and corrosion resistance of anodized parts. |
From Drawing Review to Production

Send us your drawing files (STEP, STP, IGES or PDF). You can also specify requirements such as part quantity, material, surface treatment, etc.

Our engineers will evaluate the manufacturability of anodized parts, including critical tolerances of the parts and anodizing requirements. We typically provide quotes within 24 hours.

For standard projects, prototype samples are usually completed within 7 days. The final timeline will be confirmed after drawing review.

After the sample is approved, we will arrange production according to the confirmed drawings and surface treatment standards.

Parts are inspected, protected against scratches and packed according to project and shipping requirements.
Anodizing is a surface treatment method for metal CNC-machined parts. By placing the machined parts in an electrolyte to react, a dense oxide layer is formed on their surface, making the parts have better wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and various colors of appearance.
Aluminum. Here are the reasons:
First, aluminum can form a natural oxide layer when exposed to air, and after electrolysis, it can form a denser, more uniform, and more stable oxide film.
Aluminum and aluminum alloys are lightweight and have excellent specific strength, making them ideal materials for parts in consumer electronics, automobiles, architectural decoration, and other fields, where anodizing is widely needed.
Yes. This is unavoidable, especially when using Type III anodizing.
Anodizing, especially Type III anodizing (hard anodizing), forms a layer of aluminum oxide on the surface of the part. This layer increases the overall dimensions of the part. The oxide layer grows approximately 50% inward and 50% outward, meaning it affects both the exterior and interior dimensions of the part.
Tight tolerances, especially those less than ±0.005 inches, can be significantly affected by anodizing. For example, after hard anodizing, a reamed hole may become too small, or a threaded hole may become unusable.
In addition, hard anodizing can reduce the roughness of CNC-machined parts.
When anodizing CNC-machined parts from the same production batch, we use standardized current parameters to achieve a consistent oxide layer on the surface.
Our dyes are also managed by batch, ensuring that the same dye is used for each dyeing process.
After dyeing, we perform optical inspection on the CNC-machined parts to ensure consistent coloring.
Yes, we can do partial anodizing for CNC-machined parts by mechanical masking, laser ablation, or chemical masking, based on your specific needs.
