Excellent Wear Resistance and Corrosion Resistance
The higher the hardness, the stronger the wear resistance, since bronze typically has a hardness of 90-120 HB, and aluminum bronze can achieve a hardness of up to 286 HB, making the bronze bushings can be used in moving parts undergoing prolonged rotation or sliding.
When bronze bushings are designed with self-lubricating properties, they form a thin oxide layer on the surface, reducing the friction coefficient between components and providing lubrication. This self-lubricating effect persists throughout the bronze bushing’s service life, ensuring excellent wear resistance.
In addition, bronze is naturally corrosion-resistant and can withstand long-term exposure even in harsh application environments such as moisture, chemical gases, etc., ensuring stable operation of equipment and extending their service life.

Extremely High Load Capacity
In addition to their exceptionally high friction resistance, bronze bushings also have a high load capacity, with a compressive strength exceeding 600 MPa. Compared to other bushings, such as aluminum bushings (compressive strength of less than 500 MPa), bronze bushings are always maintain their original shape and clearance with other parts.
With the self-lubricating design, your custom bronze bushing will provide stable, long-lasting performance even under extreme conditions of high loads and low speeds.
The Recent Brass & Bronze Bushing DSR Machining

These thin-walled brass bushings have a total length of 20 mm, an inner and outer diameter tolerance of ±0.01 mm. They are only 0.1 mm thick, grease-lubricated and have a polished surface making them suitable for machinery and engines.

This bronze bushing is a flange design, with a tolerance of ±0.5mm and a maximum length of 300mm. The self-lubricating graphite plug design and low noise and friction bearing design make it an excellent choice for any automotive components, and industrial equipment.

This bushing is made of SAE841 (C93200) brass with a graphite filling of 25% and a hardness of 60-65HB (according to ASTM B22 standard). It can be used continuously in the temperature range of -30°C to 350°C.

The bronze bushing measures 25 x 20 x 18 mm (adjustable to your needs), has a tolerance of ± 0.05 mm, a surface finish of less than Ra 0.4 μm, and is treated to prevent seizure. It has a net load capacity of approximately 90 MPa.
Brass and bronze are both primary materials for bushings, but their properties are actually quite different. DSR can process both, and by understanding their differences, you can choose the bushing that best suits you.
Brass vs. Bronze: Advantages and Disadvantages of Bushings
Brass bushings are mainly composed of copper and zinc. Their advantage is that they are extremely flexible, resistant to deformation and wear, and can operate at high temperatures. They also have high ductility and can be processed into various complex shapes. In addition, brass is naturally corrosion-resistant and conductive, making bushings widely used in the electrical and mechanical industries.
Bronze bushings are typically made of cast machined bronze or sintered bronze. These types of bronze are sturdy and have higher wear resistance than brass, and are often used in high-performance equipment such as pumps and valves. Bronze bushings also have a longer service life than brass bushings and require very little maintenance, greatly reducing your maintenance costs and downtime. However, they are often more expensive than brass bushings.
Brass vs. Bronze: Different Properties of Bushings
Bronze usually contains copper, tin, lead, and zinc, with copper and tin as the main components, while brass has similar components but is mainly composed of copper and zinc.
That is why bronze bushings have high wear resistance and are suitable for heavy loads and long-term operation, while brass bushings are mostly used in low-load, low-frequency applications.
Brass vs. Bronze: Different Applications of Bushings
- Bronze bushings are popular in the industrial sector, often used in construction machinery, pumps, ships, and automobiles.
- Brass, on the other hand, is more common in the consumer goods industry, with applications in small motors, home appliances, and light machinery.
There are many types of bronze and brass used in bushings, typically including the following:
- C95200 Aluminum Bronze
This type of bronze is extremely hard and corrosion-resistant, enabling bushings to operate for extended periods under high-intensity conditions and harsh environments.
- C95900 Aluminum Bronze
This nickel-containing aluminum bronze is a high-performance specialty alloy with exceptional load-bearing capacity and wear resistance, enabling bushings to be used in heavy equipment, but at a very high cost.
- C95500 Nickel Aluminum Bronze
This type of bronze is the most common, containing copper, aluminum, nickel, and iron, which gives the bushings exceptional toughness, making it the preferred material for high-stress bushings.
- C90700 Tin Bronze
This bronze contains 11% tin, which offers excellent strength and machinability, providing bushings with high wear resistance and mechanical properties. It is commonly used in precision machining applications.
DSR offers a variety of bronze and brass bushings. If you have any special copper alloy requirements, please contact us now.
There are many types of bushings, with the four most common being solid bushings, flanged bushings, grooved bushings, and split bushings. The commonly used sleeve bushings are a type of solid bushing.
Among these, flanged bushings and sleeve bushings (solid bushings) are the most common types of bronze bushings. Made from bronze material, they offer extremely high strength, load-bearing capacity, and wear resistance, enabling their widespread application.
Press fit is a common method for installing bronze bushings. Bronze can absorb greater pressure before undergoing permanent deformation, enabling it to withstand immense pressure when being pressed into the base hole without fracturing or collapsing. Additionally, it can quickly dissipate heat generated by friction, ensuring structural stability and preventing localized expansion or seizure that could hinder the installation process.
The principle involves pressing a bronze bushing with an outer diameter slightly larger than the installation hole into the hole under pressure. The interference pressure and friction between the bushing and the hole wall securely fix the bushing in place, eliminating the need for screws or other additional fasteners.
