What Are Complex Machined Parts?
Complex precision machined parts typically refer to custom parts that are structurally challenging, have strict dimensional requirements, and are difficult to machine reliably in a single operation. The challenge of these parts is not just machining their external geometry. The real challenge is maintaining the parts’ precision, stability, and consistency throughout the entire machining process.
DSR specializes in the custom manufacturing of complex CNC-machined parts. Based on our customers’ drawings, we evaluate part geometry, material properties, tolerance risks, and machining paths, and provide manufacturability recommendations before issuing a quote. This helps our customers minimize manufacturing risks, control costs, and ensure consistent delivery.
Complex Geometries We Machine
Complex geometric structures place high demands on machining equipment, clamping solutions, and toolpaths. We can evaluate the structural difficulties of parts based on customer drawings, and can also develop reasonable machining solutions for critical dimensions, tolerances, and assembly surfaces.

Thin-walled parts are prone to warping during machining. We minimize the risk of warping by taking into account material properties, clamping methods and machining sequences.

Suitable for module housings, fixtures, and cavity-type parts. During deep cavity machining, we are able to effectively control tool rigidity, chip evacuation, vibration marks, and bottom surface quality.

For irregular and free-form surface features, we can leverage our multi-axis machining capabilities to improve part forming accuracy and surface consistency.

Suitable for assemblies that require precise fit with other parts. We will focus on the key dimensions on the parts that affect assembly.

Suitable for complex parts that require multiple mounting surfaces, locating surfaces, or connection surfaces. We can machine multi-angle, multi-directional holes, steps, slots, and mounting structures, and help our customers minimize subsequent assembly issues.

We can machine multi-directional hole patterns according to the specifications in your drawings. We also pay close attention to hole spacing, concentricity, perpendicularity, and sealing surface requirements.

When machining parts with internal flow channels, we focus on evaluating the layout of the bore system, the machining sequence, tool accessibility, and plug locations to minimize issues such as fluid leakage, blockages, burrs, and assembly failures.

Manifold components must have precisely machined internal bore systems, and their external interfaces, sealing surfaces, and mounting reference surfaces must maintain good consistency. We will strictly implement the processing requirements of your drawings to ensure that the parts can be stably connected, sealed and assembled.
Our CNC Machining Capabilities for Complex Parts
CNC Complex machining parts often cannot be produced using a single machining process. Based on the requirements in your drawings, we combine various types of CNC machining processes to develop a customized machining solution for each customer’s parts.

Through milling processes, we can machine planes, steps, slots, pockets, mounting holes, positioning holes and complex profiles to meet your diverse custom part requirements.

For parts with multi-angle features, complex curved surfaces, angled holes and other structures, our multi-axis machining capabilities can improve machining efficiency and dimensional consistency.

Suitable for shafts, sleeves, fasteners, couplings, and cylindrical parts. Using this process, we can provide you with prototypes, small-batch, and mass production of complex parts. Tolerance control ranges from ±0.05 mm to ±0.1 mm.

Through precision hole machining processes, we can machine component features such as positioning holes, threaded holes, deep holes, angled holes, and intersecting holes. Additionally, for critical hole locations that affect assembly and sealing, we also focus on hole diameter, tolerances, and other parameters.

EDM is suitable for machining fine features that are difficult to process with conventional cutting tools. We will evaluate whether EDM is required based on your part structure and material requirements to achieve finer features, higher contour accuracy, or more stable localized machining results.

For complex machined parts that require precise fits and seals, grinding can further improve the surface quality and consistency of the parts. We are capable of grinding the critical surfaces, outer circles, inner bores, and grooves of parts in accordance with the requirements specified in the drawings.

Our tapping process is used to create internal threads on parts. We can machine metric threads, imperial threads, fine-pitch threads, blind hole threads, and through-hole threads, and we also pay close attention to thread depth, effective pitch, perpendicularity, and other factors.

Five-axis machining allows parts to be machined from multiple directions in a single setup. The process reduces repetitive positioning errors and also improves dimensional consistency and surface quality of complex parts. Five-axis machining can help us control machining paths more flexibly and improve machining efficiency.

Quality Control and Inspection of Complex Machined Parts

Quality control for complex machined parts cannot rely solely on final inspection, but requires full-process management from drawing review, material confirmation, process inspection to finished product shipping.
Before machining, our engineers will carefully review our customers’ drawing files. This step is to confirm the critical dimensions and functional requirements of the parts During machining, we also arrange first article inspection and process inspection to reduce the risk of dimensional deviation and rework. During machining, we also arrange first article inspection and process inspection to reduce the risk of dimensional deviation and rework.
After the finished product is completed, we will also use CMM, calipers and other inspection equipment for final inspection to ensure that the parts meet the drawing standards in terms of size, appearance, surface treatment and assembly requirements. In addition, based on your project needs, we can also provide dimensional inspection reports and material certificates to help you complete internal acceptance and quality traceability more smoothly.
Surface Treatment for Complex Machined Parts
After complex machined parts have undergone CNC machining, they typically require surface treatment to enhance their appearance or meet assembly requirements. We will assist customers in selecting the optimal surface treatment solution based on the type of your parts.

Anodizing is commonly used for aluminum alloy parts. It can enhance the corrosion resistance, wear resistance and appearance consistency of parts. Moreover, this process can also help parts maintain assembly stability while meeting appearance requirements.

Hard anodizing is suitable for complex machined parts that require higher wear resistance, corrosion resistance and surface hardness. For parts with mating dimensions or sliding surfaces, we also evaluate the impact of coating thickness on dimensions before machining.

Bead blasting can improve the machined finish, giving the part’s surface a more uniform matte appearance. We will also control the sandblasting area based on your parts’ requirements to avoid affecting sealing surfaces, precision holes, and critical assembly surfaces.

Plating can be used to improve the corrosion resistance, conductivity, wear resistance, or appearance of parts. For complex structural parts, For complex structural parts, we monitor changes in critical dimensions to ensure they continue to meet assembly and operational requirements after surface treatment.

Electroless nickel plating is suitable for parts with complex shapes that require relatively uniform coating on both internal and external surfaces. Through this process, the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of parts can be greatly improved.

Passivation is commonly used for complex stainless steel parts. It can enhance the corrosion resistance of the part surface and remove free iron contamination remaining from the machining process.

Black oxide is commonly used on steel parts to improve their appearance and provide some rust protection. Additionally, for parts that require assembly fitting, the dimensional impact of black oxide treatment is relatively small.

Powder coating is suitable for parts that require high corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and a specific color and finish. For complex machined parts, we pay close attention to the protection of mounting surfaces and coating thickness to ensure they do not interfere with subsequent assembly.

The polishing process improves the appearance and surface feel of parts. This process is suitable for cosmetic parts, instrument components, medical device housings, fasteners, and precision structural components.

Complex parts are prone to burrs. We improve the assembly safety, tactile feel, and subsequent surface treatment quality of parts through deburring processes.
