What Is a Fuel Injector?
Fuel injectors are precision control components used in engine fuel supply systems. Their main function is to deliver fuel to the engine inlet or combustion chamber with appropriate pressure, injection volume and spray pattern within a specified time. The working state of the injector will directly affect fuel atomization, combustion efficiency, engine response and emission performance.
Although the internal structure of different types of fuel injectors varies, they typically contain various high-precision mechanical components, such as injector housing, valve body, needle valve, plunger, sleeve, nozzle, and so on.
For these parts, machining accuracy is particularly important. Any deviations in the parts will affect their final sealing and assembly performance. As a precision machining manufacturer, DSR can produce fuel injector components according to our customers’ drawings. We have strict manufacturing regulations and processes, and support production from prototypes and small-batch trials to mass production.

Custom Fuel Injector Components We Manufacture
An injector may seem like just a metal part, but it integrates multiple precisely fitting components inside. Depending on gasoline injection, common rail diesel, and different driving methods, the internal structure of the injector will vary, but it is usually composed of the following key components.

The main framework of the fuel injector, capable of accommodating all internal components and withstanding the impact of high-pressure fuel. DSR can machine injector bodies of different structures according to drawings, with a focus on precision and dimensional control.

The nozzle body is located at the fuel outlet of the fuel injector and is used to mount and guide the needle valve. We manufacture nozzle bodies using processes such as precision turning, CNC turning, and grinding, and can control parameters such as bore diameter and concentricity.

The needle valve is a key moving component in fuel injectors. It features slender, small-diameter, and high-precision shaft characteristics, and we can machine such needle valves and similar precision shaft components by combining precision turning and grinding processes.

Control valves are used to regulate fuel pressure and flow within fuel injectors. This component has multiple precision mating surfaces, sealing surfaces and other structures, requiring control of critical dimensions and surface quality during machining.

Plungers and barrels typically form high-precision sliding fits, used for fuel pressurization, metering, or internal hydraulic control. We are able to manufacture these high-precision fit components using turning and grinding processes.

Control pistons are used for the hydraulic control system inside fuel injectors. Such components typically have compact structures. We are able to manufacture control pistons through Swiss machining, CNC turning and other processes, with a focus on controlling their precision.

Valve bodies are used to house and position control valves, pistons, or other internal mechanisms. Because valve bodies often have multiple interrelated features, during the machining process, we focus on controlling hole position, hole diameter, concentricity, etc.

The fuel injector also contains various sleeves, guides, bushings, spacers, nuts and other small precision-turned components. We efficiently produce these small-diameter, high-volume precision-turned components through multiple processes.
Why Choose Our Fuel Injector Components?

DSR can customize precision injector components based on drawings provided by customers.Whether it’s replacement processing for existing parts or non-standard structures in new product development, we can manufacture according to your specified requirements.

Based on the structural characteristics of different fuel injector components, we can flexibly combine a variety of manufacturing processes. By appropriately matching machining methods, we can meet the manufacturing requirements for slender shafts, complex rotary parts, precision bores, and parts with multiple features.

For continuous batch orders, DSR maintains a consistent production management approach and conducts detailed monitoring of key production processes to ensure stable quality assurance for parts across different batches.

From inquiry, drawing confirmation, sample production to mass delivery, DSR will communicate well with your team. For projects that require quality records, we can also provide corresponding inspection reports and production information according to your requirements.

For small shafts and rotary parts suitable for mass production, we can use high-efficiency processing methods such as Swiss-type lathes and automated CNC turning, and improve production efficiency by optimizing processes and reducing unnecessary repeated clamping.

DSR’s engineering and production teams have experience in precision CNC component machining. They can review drawings, process routes, and key manufacturing requirements before quoting and production.
Materials for Fuel Injector Components
Fuel injector components are in long-term contact with fuel and may be subjected to high pressure, temperature changes, and frequent reciprocating motion. Therefore, the materials need to possess good strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and dimensional stability.
Material requirements also vary for different parts. For example, the housing requires excellent strength and pressure resistance, while components such as needle valves and plungers require hardness, wear resistance, and long-term dimensional stability. Some components also need to be further improved through heat treatment or surface strengthening.
- Stainless Steel (17-4PH, 410, 420, etc.)
- Alloy Steel (4140, 4340, 8620, etc.)
- High Carbon Chromium Steel (52100 etc.)

Precision Requirements for Fuel Injector Components
Fuel injectors contain a large number of precision-fit and moving parts, making dimensional accuracy and geometric accuracy particularly important. Many parts within the injector do not work in isolation but collectively achieve injection control through precise clearances, coaxial fits, or sliding fits.
Therefore, in addition to standard dimensional tolerances, we pay special attention to roundness, cylindricity, coaxiality, straightness, and fit clearances. DSR identifies critical dimensions based on drawings and focuses on controlling key features by combining precision turning, Swiss-type machining, grinding, and corresponding inspection methods.
Machining Requirements for Guiding, Sealing & Internal Passages
The guiding surfaces, sealing surfaces, and fuel passages inside fuel injectors directly affect the movement, sealing, and fluid transfer performance of components. The guide surfaces need to ensure that components can reciprocate stably without excessive deviation. The sealing surface needs to maintain the correct geometric shape and contact state to reduce fuel leakage. The internal holes and flow channels of components need to ensure compliance with design requirements to avoid affecting fuel flow.
DSR can select appropriate machining solutions based on different structures to meet the machining requirements of complex internal features.

Heat Treatment Requirements for Fuel Injector Components
The internal components of the fuel injector frequently undergo repeated motion, contact stress, and friction during operation, so some materials need to be enhanced through heat treatment to improve performance. We will use processes such as quenching and tempering, carburizing, induction hardening, or precipitation hardening based on the materials and component functions to enhance surface hardness, wear resistance and fatigue strength.
Meanwhile, we also need to pay attention to deformation and dimensional changes during the heat treatment process. For high-precision matched components, we will reasonably arrange the sequence of heat treatment and subsequent grinding and finishing processes to ensure the final dimensions of the components meet the requirements.

Yes. These changes are considered custom modifications. You can provide an updated drawing or mark the required changes directly on the existing drawing, while clearly indicating which mating dimensions or functional relationships must remain unchanged.
Common failures of fuel injectors include nozzle blockage or wear, needle valve sticking, valve seat sealing failure, internal leakage, control valve wear, plunger or guide wear, and electromagnetic coil or actuator malfunctions.
The lifespan of the injector does not have a fixed value and usually depends on fuel quality, system pressure, engine conditions, filtering effectiveness, etc. Under normal use and maintenance conditions, many fuel injectors can operate for more than 100,000 kilometers.
You can usually determine their working condition through fault code diagnosis, listening tests, resistance/current tests, injector balance tests, and engine operating data analysis.
