What Finishes Can You Choose From?
HDPE has high chemical stability, low surface energy and strong hydrophobicity, so the conventional surface treatment of the material is difficult. However, to improve the surface adhesion and coating adhesion of parts, we can still provide you with the following surface treatments.
This is the most economical and easiest way to finish the surface. We will physically polish the surface of HDPE parts through sandpaper, sandblasting, etc. to increase micro-roughness and improve mechanical adhesion.
We can temporarily heat the surface of HDPE parts to cause microscopic oxidation on their surface to increase surface energy and roughness.. The benefit of this method is the high-speed (rate) production and mass production capability.
This process can use plasma to activate the HDPE surface and generate polar functional groups, which can significantly improve surface wettability and adhesion.
We can also chemically treat certain parts if required. During this period, we will use strong oxidants (such as chromium sulfate mixture, potassium nitrate, etc.) to chemically etch the HDPE surface to increase surface roughness and polarity.
Since HDPE is a soft material and its coefficient of thermal expansion is large, the tolerance of HDPE parts is typically ranged from ±0.1 mm to ±0.3 mm. The tolerance can be controlled to about ±0.05 mm after machining by precision machine.
