When You Choose Low Volume CNC Machining?
Low volume is not a fixed quantity. For simple small parts, hundreds of pieces may still be considered low volume. For large, complex parts, the manufacturing of dozens of parts is an important order.
- Functional prototypes have passed and more parts are needed for verification.
- Faster time to market — parts will be shipped as soon as possible to ensure you never miss a launch window.
- No mold investment required— you can save on mold costs. Our CNC process can transform CAD models into finished parts.
- Design flexibility— iterate between batches without additional costs.
- Risk reduction— test market demand before committing to large-scale production.
- You only need a small amount of replacement parts. If drawings or models are available, DSR can machine these replacement parts for you.
Regardless of the scale of your orders, DSR has always been committed to manufacturing high-quality parts for our customers. We offer a one-stop service that turns your drawings into finished products.

Low Volume CNC Machining Capability
DSR has extensive CNC machining capabilities, and we can develop a suitable machining solution tailored to your specific part requirements.

We have 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis machining capabilities, able to manufacture parts with planar, cavity, hole-slot and multi-surface features.

We can machine rotational parts such as shafts, sleeves, and bushings through turn-mill composite machining, Swiss-type machining, and other processes.

We can also machine the parts you need through drilling, reaming, tapping, grinding, EDM and other processes.

Low-volume CNC machining typically does not require expensive dedicated production molds, but may still need fixtures, inspection tools, or specialized cutting tools. Appropriate tooling can improve batch consistency.
From Functional Prototype to Low-Volume Production
We can develop reasonable processing solutions tailored to your various application needs. Whether it’s prototypes or low-volume parts, our low-volume CNC machining services can be considered your most cost-effective choice.

Prototype parts are used to validate the geometric dimensions, materials, assembly, and usage direction of the parts. At this time, you can continue to modify the design, but you should clarify which drawing version the current test corresponds to.

Produce a batch of parts that can be used for system validation, certification, trial assembly, or trial marketing. Confirm the key dimensions and appearance of the parts through first article inspection, and then decide whether to continue with full production.

Use CNC to continuously deliver parts during tooling, die casting, supply chain or production line preparation. This can also evaluate future production quantities of parts and mass production processes.

For orders with a long-term demand for a small quantity of parts, we will fix the approved drawings, materials, clamping reference, surface treatment, and inspection requirements, allowing your subsequent orders to have a consistent manufacturing basis.
Advantages of DSR Low-Volume CNC Machining Service

Your procurement team can communicate directly with DSR’s engineering team regarding drawings, benchmarks, tolerances, materials, and batch planning.

We do not set an MOQ. Both a 1-sample and a 1,000-piece trial production order follow the same pricing system and quality process.

After you upload the drawings, our engineering team will review them and provide you with a response and quotation as quickly as possible.

FAI is performed on parts for every order. Under the ISO 9001:2015 system, the quality inspection standards for 10-piece orders and 10,000-piece orders are exactly the same.

From material selection, processing to post-processing of parts, we can complete everything in one stop. This allows you to receive finished parts that can be assembled directly.

We have advanced and relatively comprehensive CNC machine tools that can efficiently handle various orders from you. Various types of parts can be produced using advanced processing technology.
Low-Volume CNC Machining Materials
Choosing the right material is half the engineering. We offer over 50 certified metals and plastics, all machined from solid raw materials – ensuring your low-volume parts have the same mechanical properties as high-volume production parts. We can also provide material certification reports with the goods upon request.
- Metal materials: aluminum alloy 6061/7075, stainless steel 303/304/316L, brass, red copper, bronze, titanium alloy, carbon steel, etc.
- Engineering plastics: POM, PEEK, nylon, PC, PTFE, ABS, acrylic, etc.

Surface Treatment for Low Volume Parts
CNC machining is just the first step. The appropriate surface treatment not only determines the appearance and texture of the parts but also directly affects corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and service life. We offer 15+ types of surface treatment processes, including as-machined, deburring, sandblasting, polishing, brushing, anodizing, chemical conversion coating, electroplating, passivation, blackening, powder coating, heat treatment, and more. Even for orders of just 50 pieces, you can expect the same treatment quality as for mass production.
Surface treatment does more than just decorate parts. It may also change:
- Final dimensions of holes, shafts, threads and mating surfaces
- Condition of conductive contact surfaces, sealing surfaces and bonding surfaces
- Flatness and heat treatment deformation of thin-walled parts
- Color, gloss and texture from batch to batch
DSR Quality Inspection Process For Low-Volume Parts
If an order consists of only a few parts, will the quality suffer? At DSR, the answer is no. Whether it’s 1 piece or 1,000, every order goes through the exact same quality control process. This is because we are committed to providing the same quality of parts manufacturing services to each of our customers. We also know that your small batch parts are often used in the most critical applications. Relying on the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system, we embed quality control into every aspect of the parts processing.
- Material Quality Verification:Check the material grade, specifications and agreed material certificates.
- First Article Inspection FAI: For every new part and every product changeover, the first piece must undergo a full-dimension inspection using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
- Process Inspection: Key dimensions are inspected on a random basis at each production stage, and tool wear is monitored in real time.
- Final Inspection: 100% visual inspection + comprehensive inspection of critical dimensions. For surface-treated parts, we will also measure film thickness and adhesion.

What Determines The Small Volume CNC Quotation?

The quotation for low-volume CNC machining production cannot only consider material weight and cutting time per piece. Quotations usually include two types of costs:
Batch Fixed Cost
In parts production, programming, fixtures or soft grippers, equipment changeovers, first-piece inspections, special cutting tools, and report preparation are all fixed costs. The fewer the parts, the higher the fixed cost allocated to each part is usually.
Cost Varying With Quantity
Material consumption, actual cutting time, tool changes, manual operations, process inspections, surface treatment, packaging, etc. The overall cost will vary with part quantity and machining complexity.
Main factors affecting the quotation include:
- Part size, material price
- Number of setups, number of machined surfaces, and tool accessibility
- Deep cavities, thin walls, deep holes, small internal fillets, and complex surfaces
- Critical tolerances, GD&T, and inspection methods
- Surface roughness, appearance requirements, and post-treatment
- Batch quantity, annual quantity, and whether there will be repeat orders
- Quality documents, special packaging, and target delivery date
